I'm not much on naval history but I'm curious about the types of ships used in Stranded.
Does anyone know what style of ship Quirk's vessel (and later to be Blunt's) is? I'm assuming its some kind of native Thai ship but is there a specific name for it?
I would guess that the Endymion (the lovely but tragic ship from which I borrowed my username) is a clipper ship, but as I said, I'm no expert.
There you go...lets see what we can come up with between us, eh? Endymion.

Oh, I totally agree. Its a beautiful vessel.
For those who are unaware, this ship below is the Albatross (not the best pic, I'll grant you - I'll try for a better one later) :

If I were to buy a ship, I'd have it custom made so that it looks like the Albatross. It's very lovely.

Dad and I have been puzzling over this...and we're coming to the tentative conclusion that the Albatross is some kind of converted Dhow. According to our researching (okay, mostly dad's 'cause he loves a mystery to be solved), dhow's are "native" of the Arabian seas and are single masted, but are pretty much like The Albatross. And here's a better pic of the ship!

Oh wow!! It really looks like you might be onto something there! The Albatross might be the Thai version of a Chinese Junk... and even if its not, its definitely somewhere to start looking.
I've had a look through the pics in the article, and the Junks depicted there have a slightly squarer prow than our beloved Albatross, but the sails (even to their unusual shape), the deck, low sides and shallow draft and everything else seem the same. I'm seriously thinking you could be onto the solution, hunny. *grinz excitedly* Hehe!! Thankyou so much for putting in your research, Random! *hugz* Its much appreciated, hunny. ;D Endymion.
