Okay, I had to share this embarassing story with you that happened just about an hour ago.
So today was my first official day at my part-time job as a Student Assistant in the Alumni Association office at my college. I mostly trained with Susan (someone else who works in the office) on how to do stuff. But towards the end, my boss, Kate gave me an errand to run. She wanted me return some bowls and silverware to the staff kitchen in the Sue Jameson closet. Now, the other day, Susan gave me a short and quick tour of Stevenson Hall so I'd know where everything was. She pointed out what the Sue Jameson closet was as we were passing it. So today, Kate gave me the keys (there were four on the ring) and I walked out of the office fairly confident that I knew where the closet was. I walked down the hall and tried to open with the keys what I thought was the Jameson closet. I tried all four keys on both locks that were on the door. It didn't open. Then I tried the door next to it because it wasn't labeled as a classroom or office either. Eight tries later on that door, and it didn't open. So I decided that it must've been around the next corner. So I walked down the next hall and around the corner. I tried an unmarked door on that hall too. It didn't open either. And then I looked up and there was a small sign above one of the doors to my left that said "Sue Jameson". I sighed audibly. So then I tried 3 keys on that door until I finally found the one that opened that door. So I opened it up, reached in and turned on the light and was faced with 3 more, tall, intimidating, closed doors. Again, I sighed audibly. I tried the door on the right, and it opened to a little closet. (I was trying to find the small kitchen.) I tried the door in front of me. It opened into a conference room. I tried the door on my left and it was locked. (And remember, I'm having to try to unlock each of these doors and trying 3-4 times to find the right key) So I decided to proceed into the conference room because there was another door in there on the far right. So I re-opened the conference room door, (and at this point, I'm feeling like either Neo in the train station in the Matrix, or Harry in the Department of Mysteries in the Order of the Phoenix), and I walked over to the other door and tried all the keys on both locks. Just as I'm about to walk away because I couldn't open it, I hear someone unlocking it from the other side. And I'm thinking, oh good, someone heard me trying to open it and is going to let me into the kitchen. The door opens, and at first I see a really nice, furnished office with huge portraits of people on the walls, and floor to high vaulted ceiling bookshelves. Everything is really nice, dark wood. And then the person comes into view. None other but the President of the school, Mr. Ruben Arminana himself is standing before me with a very surprised, confused and slightly suspicious look. I quickly stutter out that I was trying to find the kitchen, and he replies that I instead found his office. I quickly say a few apologies and ask him where the kitchen is. He tells me, but then says that he'll just show me instead. So I follow him through the conference room, through the room with the confusing three doors, and out into the hallway where he takes me next door and into the kitchen. I thank him and apologize profusely, and he says that's perfectly fine, he just thought that someone was trying to break into his office. *I mentally smack myself in the forehead* He left me then and I heard him greet someone on the way back to his office. I guess he was meeting them, cuz he invited them to follow him back to his office. I noticed as I was putting away the dishes I was sent to put away that there was a door on the far side of the kitchen and I realized that it was the door that was on my left in the room with three doors. I silently cursed that door for not opening up when I tried to, because if it had, I wouldn't have had that embarassing run in. I overheard the president saying to his friend (well, okay I stopped what I was doing and eavesdropped when I heard voices through the wall, as they were walking back through the three doors room) that he thought some terrorist was trying to break into his office. Again I mentally smacked myself. I left as quickly as I could and walked back to my office. And that's my embarassing first day story. But no doubt, that if I ever needed to talk to the president about something, he would remember me. Probably as "the girl that tried to break into my office while trying to find the staff kitchen", but he'll remember me.
