I've been wondering something - well, several somethings actually, but this is one of them.
It's never been established what Molly had done wrong to have been aboard the ill-fated Endymion. If she had been accompanying a partner/her family on board, they would have surely been there to help her look after her baby son. Instead, poor Molly appears to be sick, alone and reliant on the kindness of strangers to help her through.
I wonder what she did to be sent to a penal colony ... Murder? She doesn't seem the type. Robbery? Perhaps, but that wouldn't an offence liable for a soujourn in a penal colony, surely? Treason? Has she done something similar to David's supposed crime of siding with Napoleon?
Perhaps one thing to consider - she doesn't appear to be shackled like the other convicts. Sympathy for a young mother or is she really an innocent, just like the Robinson kids.
Ideas, guys? Endymion.

hmm, well i found it suspicious that she had a baby, but there was no mention of its father, and she was quite young to be a mother, though perhaps not for the time. but i agree with why she wasnt shackled, she has to look after the baby, and they wouldnt have seperated the mother and baby when you could just send them both off together and get rid of them both is this just curiousity or is this for your story, btw?

Hehe! Just plain, old fashioned curiosity at the moment.
Hmm, thats true about getting rid of two instead of one. shame thers not more info about what her crime might be. migt have to rewatch and see if there are any clues, eh?

Hmm, yeah I've wondered this too. Why was she on the ship in the first place? Very sad that the baby died though.
And I was kind of disappointed that we never saw her again in Part 2. I mean, she wasn't a pivotal character, but it would've been kind of cool to see Blunt and the crew go back to that island, and see how trading with Blunt worked out, and how she had reacted with Jacob's turn to piracy.

Oh, yeah. It was so sad that Molly's child died - but the baby would never have been strong enough to survive the hardships.
Hmm, we'll have to have a think between us about why Molly was there, eh? Maybe she was accompanying someone and that person did not survive the voyage?
Saying that, Blunt and his crew were full blooded pirates by that time, so trading would not be very high on their "to do" list. They might have been inclined to raid the trading village, mind you.

i was just thinking, i tried reading some of the play "our country's good" which is set in 1789 and is about a group of convicts who were shipped off to australia. but the convicts were shipped for the stupidest of crimes, which were tiny! stealing a sheep, assaulting a sailor, apparently one woman was gonna be hanged for stealing 2 candlesticks but they put her on the convict list instead. i dunno how accurate the play is, but if thats true then she could easily have been convicted for a small crime like stealing food or something. you should check out that play, its set in new south wales

New South Wales, incidentally, being the place David Robinson was being sent to before the Endymion foundered in the storm.
So she may have been stealing food to feed herself, or milk to feed her child... thats a very plausible reason for her being aboard the ship. And i think, on a little closer examination of Molly's scenes on the Trader Island, in particular (though from memory) where she is sitting cross-legged on the sleeping platform and not letting young Jacob sleep... do her ankles bear the marks of shackles or do my eyes deceive me?
I think we fans need to do a little more detective work about our friend Molly's crimes. Endymion.
