ok, i dont really like emily, but i was thinking- what happened to her mother?
i mean we see her father, but never here anything about the rest of her family. i assumed she was an only child, but where the hell is her mother?
shes sailing around the ocean with her dad, so maybe she's either dead or left...
any thoughts?

To be left travelling with her father while they are in pursuit of the Albatross, it seems likely she has nowhere else to go. That probably means her mother has died, I should think.
Separation was definately frowned upon in the early 19the century but it was surely not unheard of. I take it as a clue that her mother might be dead in the way she takes to Lara, perhaps reminded of her own mother, Lara's kindness makes her (Emily) behave in a more daughterly way, so to speak. *lol*
Or i might be talking a load of rot.
This is a great discussion topic, Random. I'd like to hear others thoughts, if they ever decide to return. However, since the topic has been sitting here for just shy of a year... Endymion.

I agree, in the book i think jenny's (closest person to emily's charecter in the actual version) mother was dead coz she was travelling with her father and his crew so yeah, most probably she died.
p.s Im back!!!

YAYNESS!! Thank goodness I'm not gonna be all on my lonesome on here anymore - though a new friend has made this more tolerable! Random, if you haven't already, perhaps you'd find it interesting to have a little look at the "other characters" section. Plus we have much to discuss.
But back to the topic at hand - Emily's mother. I've not read far enough into the book so as to find Jenny, to be honest - I'm finding to so hard going! *lol* But it does seem obvious that Jenny and Emily, despite the updating of the role, is practically the same girl/woman. Incidentally, are Jenny and Emily roughly around the same age, do you reckon, hun?
