Okay, I might be alone in this (though given the seemingly huge number of fans out there, I could be wrong) I just have to share my love of the character Pickles!
He's a full-blooded pirate and though he's a fairly unlikable character, he's just a fantastic foil for the stern Blunt and the sometimes sneaky Jacob. He's a clever man in many ways and brutal to boot. But somehow, he's so entertaining on screen that you can even overlook his negative qualities.
(Of course, from watching Stranded, I've also developed a certain fondness for the actor Francis Magee, too. He seems to be such a gentle and modest man, and very intelligent too.)
So, what do you reckon is Pickles' best moment? Endymion.

Pickles' best moment? hmm. I like the scene where he's coming down into the hold, I think it is, and flips Jacob out of the hammock and says a few lines. I really like that scene with him. And it wasn't on the VHS version of the movie.
I first watched this movie back in 2002 when it came out and it was on VHS, and then I rented it again like a year ago and watched it on DVD, and I was surprised to see new scenes on it. It made me really excited. They cut out some of the best character background/ build up scenes. The part that I just talked about with Pickles, and that whole scene in part I where Blunt asks Jacob to put that coin in Captain Quirk's chest.
*Little side note: THE DVD CAME TODAY!! AAAAHHH!!! I'm so excited! I'm seriously dropping everything right now to go watch it. wooohoooooo!!!!!!!

Go go go!! Watch it now, moviefanatic! Hehe! Enjoy!
My personal favourite Pickles section is where he's angrily chasing Jacob all over the ship while Emily is making her unseen escape. Even when he corners the boy, Pickles can't quite get hold of the slippery pirate Robinson. And he's actually right to be outraged but still doesn't get any justice even when he does get his hands on Jacob and is intent of punishing him. Its also a pivotal moment when Blunt steps in with his threats - its the point where you get the impression that Pickles is finally beginning to think seriously about mutinying against Blunt, if only to get at his "nemesis" Jacob who is under the captain's protection.
Hmm, and thats interesting. I didn't realise they'd released a cut version. Though, thinking about it, I guess it makes sense that it would be cut on VHS because official release videotapes can only hold so much information.
Moviefanatic, if its not too much trouble (and if you have the time, of course) would you mind making out a list of the missing scenes from the VHS edition - it'd make a good addition to the trivia page. Endymion.
