I had no idea until a friend on YouTube pointed out that Bonnie is also in the Harry Potter films as the youngest Weasley child, Ginny.
Does anyone have any opinions on the Harry Potter movies - or the books?
How do you think the character of Ginny in the books compares to Bonnie's portrayal of her? Personally, I think the movies, and Bonnie herself, have done a great job of filling out the roles and bringing the characters to life.
But how about you guys? Endymion.

i dont know bout anyones else, but ive always thought the films were rubbish, coz im one of those people who prefer them to stick to the book as much as possible. why change an already good idea?
but i think that bonnie did a good job, they wrote her a bit differently in the film than i thought she would be, but thats the script not the acting

Wow! You mentioned Harry Potter, and now I could go on for days on that subject. But I won't. I love both the books and movies, because rarely can you find a movie that really does a book justice and contains everything the books had. So I just look at them as two separate things.
I don't think that we can say too much about Bonnie Wright's acting until the 6th one, because they really didn't incorporate her character into the films at all. Which is sad because in the 6th one it's going to seem like she just popped out of no where, cuz she has a much bigger role in HBP than any of the other books and they didn't build up her character at all in the previous movies. She's probably had about what, 7-8 lines all together from the past five movies? So... But I've never really been a Ginny fan. I don't like the whole Harry/Ginny thing, but I guess that's the way it is, so whatever.
You know who I thought they did a great job of bringing to life? Luna. I honestly didn't connect to her character at all in the books. She seemed out there, (which is her character, I know), but eh, I just didn't like her all that much in the books. But the actress who plays her in the movies Evanna Lynch (I think that's it) did a beautiful job bringing the character to life. I mean, she was Luna. I really liked her after watching the movie. She's one of my fave characters now.
Have you both finished Deathly Hallows? Cuz I don't want to write any spoilers on here if you guys haven't.

The fifth movie was extremely dissapointing if you compare it to the book, cuz they really left out like half the book, and yet everything they did put in was packed in there really tightly. So again, you have to watch it as a separate thing, rather than compare it to the book. But OotP was my fave book, so I was excited to see it. And it's absolutely AMAZING to watch it on IMAX 3-D. That was incredible.
And Imelda Staunton (I think that's her name) didn't look the way I pictured Umbridge, but boy was she just as nasty. She played the part really well too. She just makes me cringe because she was so sickeningly sweet but evil at the same time.

yeah, i never imagined mrs umbridge like that either. im almost reluctant to watch the 5th film though, or reread the book, coz they killed off my favourite charecter, and one of my favourite actors! though in my opinion, gary oldman, fantastic as he is, is not good for sirius

Wow! You guys like Harry Potter, eh? *lol* Okies, this reply is gonna be loooong!! HEHE!
Bear with me 'cause I'm skipping back to an earlier part of the convo, but I think its because Bonnie/Ginny isn't really seen much in the first few films (well, okay, she's pivotal to CoS, but still in a really subtle way...I was more entertained by poor Rupert Grint acting with his voice breaking. *lmao* Kudos to the guy for that!) that I didn't twig that she was the actress from Stranded...y'know?
I'm with you guys in that I find the books better than the films, but I have to say one thing about OotP and thats I understand the book better now by seeing the film. I found the fifth book a little overly complicated - but the film seems to have smoothed the wrinkles for me, so to speak, y'know? So I was greatly impressed by it. I know a lot of folks weren't though.
A small request, gang...if you're gonna talk abot the final book, please could you add a spoiler warning for me 'cause I've not got to read it yet. Thanks!
THE FILMS
I loved the first two films - they pared down the things which were shown to te essentials without destroying the smaller plotlines competely. However, the third rolled around (my favourite book so far 'cause of my werewolf/shapeshifter addiction) and I was dismayed to find that so much of the essential plot point were cut. I do think that had they convinced Chris Columbus to stay, the film would have been so much better, even after the sad death of Richard Harris (Michael Gambon has done a great job of filling such impressive shoes.)
But I can't blame the filmmakers 100% 'cause they have to make the plot fit a set time limit and the books, by this time, were/are getting thicker, more detailed and complicated so some things have to go.
I really disliked GoF - it seemed so....disjointed. The arguments between Hermione and Ron seemed to have no bearing on the story, as they did in the book, y'know. They were just conflict scenes. And Harry's sudden access to new spells and abilities are not fully explained (if you know the book then you know where he learned Accio and other spells, but the film simply has it that he knows them immediately in time for each trial.) Though this film boasts my favourite bit. When ron and Harry are whispering about who to take to the ball and keep getting caught out by Snape (The only character I've adored in all the films so far - I could be biassed though 'cause I also love Alan Rickman).
I agree, actually, that Gary Oldman, Super-God of acting that he is, doesn't seem to inhabit the role of Sirius as I thought he might. not that he does a bad job or anything - Heaven Forbid! - but theres much to be desired in the character that was present in the book. Though, that said, there are a couple of lovely moments in film 5 which are all the more poignant if you know what will happen to Sirius later - the tapestry room is one of them.
Aargh! no more time! More to come later, my lovely Harry Potter-philes but for now thats my lot I think...hope you're not too bored! *lol* (And you thought I could rabbit on for England about Stranded, Random! ) Endymion.
